It’s possible that Antone is a desendant of the famous Antone Silva of Maui, although I have not found a direct connection.
There is also another Antone of Lahaina, who married Beke Davis, the daughter of Isaac Davis. It’s possible that our Antone is a descendant of Antone and Beke.
He was born in 1870 and the first Portuguese immigrants shipped here to work the cane fields came in 1878. Antone was half hawaiian and half Portugues, so we know that he descended from an earlier immigrant. There was only a handful of Portuguese immigrants prior to 1878, living in the islands. | Antone SILVA

| 376 |
The story goes (as told by many relatives*), Emma Fern was the illigitimate daughter of Queen Emma. When she was born she was put in hiding for fear that she would be killed. Her father was Samuel Smith, but some have said that her father was someone more illustrious like another alii. It was also told to me that she was hanaied to a doctor with the last name Hiram.
Records:
8 Jan 1889, marriage certificate of Emma & Antone, parents not listed, but she is listed as “Emma Alama**”
6 Apr 1910, marriage certificate of Emma & Joe, parents were listed as John Hiram & Manu.
5 Feb 1912, marriage certificates of her daughters Rebecca & Victoria, both sisters state their mother’s maiden name is Emma Hiram.
25 Sep 1917, marriage certificate of daughter Emma, she states her mother’s maiden name is Emma Sam(?)
11 Oct 1917, marriage certificate of son Samuel, maiden name of mother is Emma Kalahikiola
6 May 1920, marriage certificate of daughter Rebecca, maiden name Emma Smith.
4 Mar 1924, death certificate of daughter Emma, maiden name is Emma Hiram (informant-Mrs. Emma Fern)
17 Jul 1928, death certificate of daughter Agnes, maiden name is Emma K. Hiram (informant-Mrs. Joseph K. Fern)
11 Jan 1930, marriage cerificate of daughter Mary, maiden name is Emma Kealiikukahili Kaohele??? Hiram
29 Nov 1934, death certificate of daughter Mary, mother listed as Emma Hiram (informant-Mrs. Emma Sylva)
3 Feb 1936, death certificate of son Samuel, maiden name of mother is Smith (informant-Emma Fern)
24 Sep 1937, death certificate of Emma Fern, father is listed as Samuel Hiram and mother “no record”. (informant-Victoria K. Ano)
Death certificates for Anna Sarah and Victoria list maiden name unknown.
LDS records submitted by Mary Hoapili to the morman church in the 1930’s, have Emma K’s parents listed as Samuel Smith and Manukeliikekulamanu Naihe or Naehu.
*relatives include Naomi Forbuss, Connie Woyciesjes & Jean Stiehl. Connie’s story differs in that she was told, as a child, by her grandmother (Julia Haiku) that it was either Princess Pauahi or Queen Emma. Anthony Salis just said an alii woman and didn’t specify anyone. Nelson Kaai heard about the “hidden or else be killed” story, but didn’t specify any alii in particular. No one specified who Emma’s father was, but everyone knew that John Hiram was the hanai father.
**The hawaiian name for Hiram is Hailama, so this could be why she’s known as Emma Alama.

Naomi said her mother (Kapeka Wardlaw) told her that when she was a little girl, her mother (Victoria Ano) asked the caretaker at the Catholic Cemetery on King St., if she could bury her mother’s (Emma Fern) ashes with her husband Joseph James Fern and she was told there was no room. So later that night when it was closed Victoria and her daughter Kapeka snuck into the cemetery and buried the ashes of Emma Fern at Joseph’s gravesite

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Emma Fern was an accomplished chanter & dancer.
It’s unknown who taught her hula, but we assume relatives.
She learned some chanting/hula pahu from Antone Kao’o.

First Lady of Honolulu.
As a Hawaiian tradition, the wife of the Mayor of Honolulu is honored with the ceremonial title of First Lady of Honolulu. Honolulu is distinct in this tradition as most United States cities and towns reserve the title of First Lady to the wife of the state governor, wife of the President of the United States or wife of visiting foreign heads of government. Honolulu deemed it necessary to bestow the ceremonial title to reflect her role in relation to her husband’s extensive international responsibilities. The title is not codified in modern law but the honorific is derived from customs of the Hawaiian monarchy.~http://www.answers.com/topic/mayor-of-honolulu. | Emma Keliikekukahilikaleleokalahikiolaokalani SMITH

Death date of Dec. 21, 1880 is from a newspaper article from the Hawaiian Gazette. No evidence that this is the same Samuel Smith, but too many coincidences of names that I tend to believe that it is. Records on the familysearch.org site give his death date as 1870 and some others say 1872. | Samuel SMITH

Conflicting death dates submitted to familysearch.org. Some say 1855, other’s 1853. The fact that his wife married another man in 1853 makes me think he died then. Allthough I’m not 100% sure that, the record of his wife marrying is actually her. | William SMITH
